November20,2024

デュエルビッツ vipel, Ltd.

デュエルビッツ vipel announces the launch of Kobenable® Aluminum, a low-CO2 デュエルビッツ vipct that contributes to reducing CO2 emissions from customers’ products.

In デュエルビッツ vipcts, it is essential to reduce CO2 emissions in Scope 3, which constitutes a significant portion of the total emissions. Kobenable® Aluminum is a low-CO2 デュエルビッツ vipct that uses the mass balance method*1, based on which the Company allocates the CO2 reduction effects derived from the use of low-CO2 aluminum raw materials to specific デュエルビッツ vipcts. By employing the product, customers can lower their Scope 3 emissions down to zero. The initial launch of Kobenable® Aluminum covers the aluminum rolled products manufactured at Moka Works that underwent verification by a third-party certification body*2 (DNV*3).

Kobenable® Aluminum has the following four features:

Reduction of CO2 emissions through Kobenable® Aluminum

Aluminum rolled products (aluminum coils)

The plan is to promote the increased use of recycled raw materials (Scope 3) and energy savings, productivity improvement, and the use of non-fossil energy (Scopes 1 and 2) in its aluminum rolled products at Moka Works, thereby maximizing CO2 reduction effects and providing quantitative value to customers, aiming to realize a decarbonized society.

Similar efforts are also being implemented for the aluminum extrusion products at Chofu Works and the aluminum casting and forging products at Daian Works.

The デュエルビッツ vipel Group, also known as the Kobelco Group, is promoting transformation initiatives collectively called KOBELCO-X*4, aimed at achieving its business strategy, including taking on the challenge of realizing carbon neutrality. The launch of Kobenable® Aluminum is positioned as an effort linked to GX (Green Transformation), one of the seven transformation initiatives. The Group is committed to the realization of a carbon-neutral society by providing a wide variety of products and technologies, leveraging its comprehensive strength of operating diverse businesses.

The Group continues to provide solutions to the needs of society through the integration of its diverse array of businesses, technologies, and human resources and move forward with the transformation into an appealing company for all stakeholders, as it strives for a world in which people, now and in the future, can fulfill their hopes and dreams while enjoying safe, secure, and prosperous lives.

  • *1: The mass balance method is a method to allocate specific characteristics to a certain portion of products based on the input amount of raw materials with such characteristics when there is a mix of raw materials with and without such characteristics (e.g., low CO2) in the manufacturing process.

*2: The verification by a third-party certification body confirmed that デュエルビッツ vipel’s management regulations concerning the sale of Kobenable® Aluminum have been properly established in accordance with global standards and guidelines such as the GHG Protocol and the management standards for the manufacturing and distribution processes as agreed between デュエルビッツ vipel and DNV.

*3: DNV is a third-party certification body that assesses green house gas (GHG) emission reductions and GHG emissions by product. DNV Business Assurance Japan K.K. and DNV BUSINESS ASSURANCE SERVICES UK LIMITED have completed the verification of Moka Works in its GHG emission calculation, GHG reduction effect calculation, and mass balance operation scheme for the transition to low-CO2 raw materials (green aluminum raw materials).

*4: Kobelco Group has identified seven transformation initiatives to transform into an appealing company, which are collectively called KOBELCO-X.
